Abstract: Nowadays, most of growing cities in the world are witnessing an unprecedented increase in road traffic congestion because of population mobility and sporadic events like accidents and natural disasters. As these congestions generally result in substantial casualties and economic losses, tremendous investments are being spent on efficient solutions for road traffic management. Abundant works have proposed solutions to help road traffic stakeholders in making decisions about ongoing events at the individual and collective levels. However, not enough success is yet achieved when it comes to collecting, processing, and delivering the right data, from the right location, at the right time to the right user. We argue in this paper that the divide should be effectively closed between a real world where road traffic and its related events are happening and a world where decisions are being taken. To this end, we propose to use the emergent technologies of Cyber Physical Systems along with multi-agent system mechanisms for additional autonomy, flexibility, and control of the different aspects of the highly dynamic and uncertain field of road traffic management. Within this scope, we propose an architecture of a Cyber Physical Spatial Decision Support System (CPSDSS) through which we explain how various road traffic challenges could be monitored and controlled. read more... read less...

Multi-hop Wireless Network: A Comparative Study for Routing Protocols Using OMNET++ Simulator

Abstract: The growth of ad hoc networks which occurred in the last few years results in an improvement in routing protocols to handle multi-hop communications. The multi-hop communication is the most suitable solution to overcome the limitation of transmission range of mobile terminals. The selection of routing protocol among the existing ones is a crucial issue, and based on its performance. Thus, in this work the performance of four well-known routing protocols named DSR, AODV, OLSR and DSDV was evaluated based on ad hoc network size (number of nodes). In this work, we have achieved several simulation scenarios to estimate the performance of the mentioned protocols. Results have been achieved by using OMNet++ simulator and we have considered three metrics which are: end-to-end delay, collision and packet delivery ratio for comparison purpose. Abstract: In the recent years, the publish/subscribe (pub/sub) communication model has emerged as a suitable communication paradigm for large-scale distributed systems. That is due to its effective decoupling properties for the network’s participants in time, space, and synchronization. These properties are well-suited for Wireless Sensor/Actuator Networks (WSAN) applications. Data Distribution Service (DDS) is a well-known standard in the academic and industrial communities for supporting real-time distributed systems based on the pub/sub model. TinyDDS is a light weight and partial porting of DDS middleware to WSN platforms. The main objective of this paper is to use TinyDDS standard-based solution to minimize the energy consumption and maximize throughput of WSANs when applying the pub/sub interaction scheme, while maintaining the content-based filter QoS support. Adding content-based filter to the default TinyDDS (DTDDS) enable the WSAN to gain high performance in terms of packet delivery ratio and reduce the power consumption and we called this addition as CFTDDS. A Guard Node (GN) based Technique against Misbehaving Nodes in MANET

Abstract: In open communication environment such as Ad hoc network, the possibility of having misbehaving nodes is high. The presence of misbehaving nodes could degrade the performance of the overall network. This mandates adopting Intrusion Detection System (IDS) that helps the routing protocol to avoid misbehavior nodes and links. The IDS should feature low overhead controlling packet, high accuracy level and low rate of both false alarms and missed detection rate. There are several IDS techniques proposed in the literature such as Watchdog and End-to-End acknowledgment based system. In this work, we propose a system based on assigning some nodes called “guard nodes” the responsibility of overhearing and reporting the misbehaving nodes. The scheme is proposed to overcome the majority of the drawbacks associated with the Watchdog techniques. Abstract: Mobile Ad-Hoc networks (MANET) have become related to several aspects in human life while normal users uses the wireless mobile systems without prior knowledge about how such systems works. In order to support the mobility in MANETs, the routing protocols are needed to handle the data transmission between the wireless nodes from a source to destination. Ad-Hoc On demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) is a popular routing protocols used in MANET. Vehicular Ad-Hoc Networks (VANET) is a special type of MANET which is used to support the high mobility between moving cars on the roads. Abstract: Nowadays video conferencing is a highly demanding facility in order to its real time characteristics, but faster communication is the prior requirement of this technology. Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) IP Virtual Private Network (VPN) addresses this problem and it is able to make a communication faster than others techniques. However, this paper studies the performance comparison of video traffic between two routing protocols namely the Enhanced Interior Gateway Protocol (EIGRP) and Open Shortest Path First (OSPF). The combination of traditional routing and MPLS improve the forwarding mechanism, scalability and overall network performance. We will use GNS3 and OPNET Modeler 14.5 to simulate many different scenarios and metrics such as delay, jitter and mean opinion score (MOS) value are measured.
